Brooklyn Modern Brownstone: BedStuy and NYC Local Recommendations

For anyone new to NYC, below are some recommendations.
I highly suggest making reservations two weeks in advance, especially for any rooftop spots, and checking that restaurants are still open before going.

Bedford Stuyvesant Recommendations

I left recommendations for my favorite bars and restaurants in the Bedstuy neighborhood in the house manual.

Bedstuy Restaurants:
Chez Oscar, Peaches, Saraghina’s Pizzeria, Trad Room (Japanese and Best Burger), L'antagoniste (Best patio ambiance and mussels), Tepache (Casual Mexican and BYOB), Zacas and Brown Butter (for breakfast), Turtle All the Way Down Bar.

Brooklyn Restaurants

DUMBO:
Gran Electrica (Mexican), 1 Hotel Harriet's Rooftop (sunset cocktails).

Prospect Heights:
White Tiger (Asian Fusion), Alta Calidad (Mexican), Weather Up (Cocktails), Olmsted (New American).

Crown Heights:
Chavelas (Mexican), Mayfield’s (New American), Cent’ Anni (Italian), Barboncino (Pizza).

Williamsburg Day

I would also go to Williamsburg for a day where I used to live.

Shopping:
PEMA (Women), ID (Menswear), Smorgasburg (on the weekend).

Views:
Make a reservation for sunset at the Westlight (top of the William Vale Hotel).

Williamsburg Restaurants:
Aurora’s (Italian, beautiful patio), Meadowsweet (Michelin star), Le Crocodile.

NYC Recommendations

  1. Downtown TKTS office at the South Street Seaport for Broadway tickets at a discount.

  2. Walk the Highline down the west side for great views of Chelsea and Meatpacking, see Little Island, and stop at Chelsea Market or Eataly for food.

  3. Visit the 9/11 Memorial and go early for the top of the Freedom Tower.

  4. The free Staten Island Ferry is an easy way to tour the NY harbor and see the Statue of Liberty.

NYC Restaurants

Battery Park / Statue of Liberty:
Merchants River House, Seamore's, Giginos.

Tribeca:
Locanda Verde, Serafina, The Odeon, Tiny's and the bar upstairs, City Vineyard (Hudson views).

West Village:
Tartine (Small BYOB), Dante’s (Hudson Street location for Happy Hour $10 martinis), Market Table (brunch), Café Cluny (brunch), Little Owl, L’Artusi (Italian and Olive Oil Cake), Galway Hooker (sports bar).

Soho:
Lure Fishbar, Boqueria (brunch), Balthazar, Mercer Kitchen, Soho Grand Hotel (cocktails), Macao Trading Co. (late-night drinks and dancing downstairs).

Noho:
Claudette (French), Bond ST (Japanese), The Wren (bar).

East Village:
Lamia’s Fish Market (ambiance), Café Mogador (Moroccan), Supper (Italian), Amelie’s (wine bar), Veselka (pierogis), Raclette (French), Motorino (Pizza), Please Don’t Tell (speakeasy).

Chelsea:
Bocca di Bacco, Buddakan, Fonda (Mexican), Jack’s Wife Freda, Raine’s Law Room (speakeasy), Bathtub Gin (bar), Café Cluny (speakeasy).

As you can see, I am more of a downtown person, but there are many great restaurants in the Upper West Side (UWS) and Upper East Side (UES) after a day at Central Park.
